>Windows 7 on samba PDC

By | January 17, 2011

Horrible day starts when windows 7 come into samba domain setup, i mean where Samba act as PDC. My setup is on RHEL 5 that use samba 3.0.33. Samab working as PDC is our setup. But now a days we are getting some windows 7 client. Adding windows 7 as a client in samba domain is really painfull. First of all what we need is to upgrade out samba. Samba wiki says that we require samba 3.3 at least http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7. From samba users i got fact that Windows 7 cannot join to Samba 3.2.11, can join to Samba 3.2.12 and 3.2.15, but a lot registry editing required.

But i think one must go for samba 3.3.x if windows 7 is going to be one of client of samba PDC.
If your Samba’s version is 3.3.2 – 3.3.4, then the additional settings
below are needed:
             DWORD  RequireSignOrSeal = 0
             DWORD  RequireStrongKey = 0

If your Samba’s version is 3.3.5, no need of above settings. But you must
do following settings. Remember you must not set above registry settings

           DWORD  DomainCompatibilityMode = 1
           DWORD  DNSNameResolutionRequired = 0
